# MongoDB Sink Document Id Strategy

I am trying to deploy a MongoDB Sink and I can find no description about the strategies used for generating document Ids. Could anyone shed some light on this?

You’ve probably already seen this, but [here’s a link](https://www.mongodb.com/docs/kafka-connector/current/sink-connector/configuration-properties/id-strategy/) to a page on the MongoDB site that discusses this topic.

Also, [here’s a link](https://www.mongodb.com/community/forums/t/how-to-get-kafka-event-key-string-as-the-document-id/121870) to a discussion on using the Kafka event key as the document id in Mongo.
