Java client Timed out waiting for a node assignment

Hi,
I have installed Confluent Platform on a Centos7 VM. It works fine from within the VM’s guest OS.
Now I want to connect to Kafka through a Java client from the Host OS which is windows 10. However, the connection is timing out. I dont know if its a configuration issue or if its an issue with the VM image. Can you please help me with this?

I am using VMware Workstation 16 Player to run the Centos 7 VM. I tried the following Network settings by updating the advertised listeners and the Java client’s bootstrap.servers property accordingly. In each setting, ping works fine from Host to Guest IP.

  • NAT
  • Host Only

Actually have a relatively same question. No solution found yet.
Question: I have created 3 topics as test, test_1 and test_2. While uploading data to topic test is working fine, however application fails to upload data on other topics (test_1 and test_2). Below is the exception :
org.apache.kafka.common.errors.TimeoutException: Topic test_1 not present in metadata after 0 ms.

The partition and replication factor are same for all the topics. Replication factor is set to 2 and partition set to 3.

I have/had the same problem, running the confluent example code against our cloud cluster. I suspect this has everything to do with accessibility as it fails for me from my laptop (inside our corporate network), but works fine when I run from an AWS EC2 instance in the same region as our cloud environment. I get the same error as OP when running from my laptop …

But works fine, creates topic and produces messages when run from EC2… so in short, @rmoff 's documents about accessibility to the brokers - not just the bootstrap server - are as relevant as ever. If you have kafkacat, and can run the needful command, that may help you diagnose further … for me. I was unable to get kafkacat/kcat to work from my laptop to confirm the broker set I am getting, but left it as its not an issue for me at the moment since the EC2 approach meets my needs.
