Compaction is a commonly used mechanism in Apache Kafka to help clean up an older version of keys written by a producer. The challenge we often see is the expectations users have. Compaction, for the most part, is a fairly optimistic way of reducing duplicate keys and it can be tricky to control. In this talk, we’ll dive into how compaction works, how you should think about compaction, and what some of the right (and wrong) use cases for compaction are.
