A very long time ago, Jeff started out wrangling C compilers on Supercomputers. At Oracle, he worked on getting a kernel made for a VAX to run on a 32-way SGI box. The next Oracle puzzle was to get this box to stream video, which included time served on a MPEG sub-committee. While working in Yahoo global engineering, the art of platform design was first attempted, which continued at Red Hat, NetApp, and then back to Yahoo’s Search Engineering group, better known as Hortonworks. Most of the last decade was with Threat and Operational Intelligence platforms, which evolved into slinging Kafka into an MRZR, an F150, or just tossing brokers into a ditch. Jeff currently works in Confluent’s Advanced Technology Group twisting Kafka into Intelligent Disconnected Edges - on ARM, and sometimes on that other instruction set.
